In 1987, guitar guru Thumbs Carlisle passed away.
In 1964, Jim Reeves and pianist Dean Manuel were killed in a plane crash in Brentwood, Tennessee. It is believed by some that he had 'pilot's vertigo', and others have said that he was a victim of his ego. I have also heard and read that he and Randy Hughes, who piloted the flight that killed Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, and Cowboy Copas, were trained by the same flight instructor. I don't believe I want that information on my resume.
In 1963, professional wrestler Chad Brock was born in Ocala, Florida. He did make a tiny ripple in the waters of country music several years ago.
In 1996, Willie Lee (Jay) Webb passed away. He was Loretta Lynn's brother, and was also a country music performer.
In 1982, Ricky Skaggs went to the top of the charts with "I Don't Care".
In 1971, Charlie Pride scored a Number One with "I'm Just Me".
In 1954, a duet by Kitty Wells and Red Foley went to the top of the charts. "One By One" was Number One on the Juke Box Charts.
In 1952, one of the best session guitarist in Nashville, Steve Gibson, was born in Peoria, Illinois. I think you might read this little bit of an interview I found:

In 1937, Bonny Brown, of the Browns(Bonnie, Maxine and Jim Ed), was born in Sparkman, Arkansas. In their heyday, they were superstars. In 2003, at the Last Ride On The Hayride, they were just absolutely awesome.
In 1916, The First Lady Of Racing, Louise Smith, was born in Barnsville, Georgia. For a little information about this Nascar personality, click here:

As someone who was a friend of Jim Reeves, I think the comment about his ego possibly being the cause of his plane crash was inappropriate and uncalled for. How about a word or two about his impressive posthumous career. Jim Reeves records continued to make the country charts for more than 15 years after his passing. A website dedicated to his memory has a very active fan forum.

Hi, good job. Nice blog here. Hi. I f you love Country Music then you must take a look to a new web site http://countryfiedsoul.orgfree.com
There is no disrespect intended. I just put in what I was told by some who were close friends, and are in the Hall of Fame, so their words carry a little weight with me.
I think everybody has two sides, and, if we are fortunate, many times we only see one side of a person. Take me for example, most people think I am a nice guy, but I am sure that you can find a few, including ones that live with me that could tell you things that would make your hair stand on end.
I might also add that we know a lot more about Jim Reeves, and especially his estate, than we care to share. In fact, we tried to buy a piece of his estate several years ago, but the conditions of the sale were too restrictive.
Thanks for commenting. Comments are always welcome here.
And the two posts that were deleted were just extra posts. They have nothing to do with the content of these comments. I just thought when I cancelled them, the duplicate and the explanation for the duplicate would just go away forever. Otherwise, I would have left them up, rather than lead others to believe there was something I didn't like here.
Once again, thanks for reading and commenting.
Thanks John for your response. Yes, it is sad the people who were involved in Jim's estate. Some were very, very strange characters indeed.
I suppose I'm just a little touchy about anything derogatory that is said about someone who is deceased as they're not around to defend themselves or tell their side of the story.
But hey, you're still batting 99.9% with me. Keep up the good work.
I don't remember the name of the estate that Home Depot bought, but we only dropped out of that because the financing that we found required that we would have to live there, and at that time we couldn't.
As far as that estate sale stuff, a lot of that would have never happened had we not had a president who gave out pardons so easily.
I only bat about .200 here at home, so I take that as a complement.
